What if dancing was a child’s play? A board game? A game with playing cards, instructions, dancing cards? Experimented through workshops in schools, Rock’n Chair puts young audiences at the center of the choreographic creation, conveying them its spontaneity. Curious, often disorientated, they are delighted: everything dance possesses to be written is there, right under their eyes. From onlookers, they become active; from novices, they become amateurs. To the music of The Doors, a perfect illustration of a mythical rock energy, the dice are cast, the cards dealt, the colors on the ground confined, the dancers ready to perform! All they need is to be given an instruction and follow a protocol – movements, phrasing, relationship to the ground, relationship to others – for the dance to start. As they pick the cards, the game builds the show, mingling bodies, tempos and movements in the various areas till the finale. When the artists free themselves from the grip of the cards … Everything is in sight, in an unparalleled bond between the artists and the public ending every time in a win.
